Title:  Student Support Specialist
 
Job Summary:The Elementary Interventionist (Student Support Specialist) provides targeted support to students who need additional instruction in foundational skills. This position works closely with classroom teachers to identify learning gaps and deliver small-group instruction designed to strengthen core skills and promote student success. The interventionist monitors student progress and adjusts instruction to ensure students are making measurable growth. This role combines hands-on academic and behavioral support in a small group or 1:1 setting with program coordination including but not limited to students participating in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) programs. The position emphasizes collaboration, differentiation, and proactive referral to external TEFA - approved vendors when needs exceed in-house resources.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current Teaching Certification
  • Profound understanding and commitment to Christian faith and principles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Past experience as a math and reading teacher, Grades K-5.
  • Experience working with struggling learners or intervention programs.

Hours:This is a full-time, self-contained position

Essential Functions
Essential functions of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following functions.  Other duties may be assigned.
  • Student Intervention:
  • Provide targeted small-group instruction in reading, mathematics, and behavior support to students.
  • Identify skill gaps using assessment data and collaborate with teachers to create intervention plans.
  • Plan engaging lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Deliver focused instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and resources including programs supported by TEFA in areas such as:
    1. Phonics and decoding
    2. Reading comprehension and fluency
    3. Math facts and number sense
    4. Foundational math skills and problem solving
    5. Behavior Support
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data and student needs.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to support student learning goals.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers regarding student progress and instructional strategies.
  • Partner closely with classroom teachers to implement differentiated instructional strategies and supports that promote student success across subjects.
  • Participate in team meetings to review student data and determine intervention placement.
  • Establish open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other school events.
  • Guide families on coordinating supplemental services (e.g. tutoring, therapies) through pre-approved TEFA vendors when appropriate, with parents handling direct payments via the platform.
  • Assessment and Data Management:
  • Use data from classroom assessments and standardized testing (such as NWEA, Literacy First, or similar assessments) to identify students needing support.
  • Track student progress and maintain documentation of intervention efforts.
  • Adjust intervention groups as students demonstrate growth or require additional support.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic, behavioral, and spiritual growth.
  •  Instructional Support:
  • Develop and implement intervention lessons that target specific academic needs.
  • Utilize research-based strategies and instructional resources to support struggling learners.
  • Encourage student confidence and perseverance through positive reinforcement and supportive instruction.      
  • Spiritual Development:
  • Model Christ-like behavior and values through actions and interactions with students. Exemplify behavior and character consistent with Christian values, serving as a positive role model for students both inside and outside the classroom.
